SIBU: All it took was to promote and add the item to the carts in Shopee, and a 40-year-old school teacher earned RM200 commission from her first online task.

Little did the victim from Sibu realise, the commission was bait that landed her into a part-time job scam mess, which saw her losing RM25,465 of her savings.

Sibu district police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili in a statement yesterday said the victim received a part-time job offer after being added to a Telegram group.

“The victim has been offered a part-time job by promoting or adding clothing items to the cart on the Shopee application and clicked on the given link which is https://m.luxurysvip168.com/#ucenter and has followed the instructions from the group leader,” he said.

Zulkipli noted that the victim was convinced when she found that all the members of the telegram group received a high commission for each task given.

“On Feb 2, she transferred RM50 and RM58 into a given link and received RM200 in return. The next day on Feb 3, she transferred a total of RM25,465 into three different bank accounts in six transactions.

He said the victim realised that she was scammed after he did not receive any commission from the company.

Hence, Zulkipli urged the public to always check every job offer to avoid falling victim to fraud and always remember that “I want to work, but why do we need to pay?”

“The public must be cautious with non-existent companies and check the companies listed on the Malaysian Companies Commission (MCC) website so as not to be deceived by job offers,” he said.
