Teen among two busted for reckless riding

SIBU: Two locals, including a teenager, were arrested for allegedly engaging in dangerous riding in an integrated operation codenamed ‘Ops Samseng Jalanan’.

The operation, carried out along Jalan Awang Ramli Amit and around the town, was held on Friday (Jan 26) from 9pm to 4am on Saturday (Jan 27).

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili in a statement, said that the team managed to arrest two men aged 21 and 16, for reckless and dangerous riding.

Such act is an offence under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a jail term of up to five years and be fined up to RM15,000, and a driver’s license suspension for a period of up to five years.

Throughout the operation, the team also issued a total of 145 traffic summonses for various offences including not having a driver’s license, expired road tax, modified exhaust, fancy plate numbers and not having side mirrors.

He added that a total of 42 motorcycles were confiscated for documentation purposes.

In light of this, Zulkipli advised all road users to adhere to the traffic laws, and that parents should monitor and be aware of their children’s activities to prevent them from being involved in illegal activities.
