Teen succumbs to injuries en route to hospital

LUNDU: A teenage boy succumbed to his injuries while being rushed  to Lundu Hospital following a two-vehicle collision along KM22, Jalan Lundu-Sematan yesterday (Jan 30).

The accident, involving a motorcycle and a pick-up truck, happened around 6 pm at the P-turn area near Kampung Temaga Melayu.

Lundu police chief DSP Damataries Lautin said the crash occurred when the victim, 13-year-old Alif Aziq Mohd Zulkifli, was riding his motorcycle from Sematan to Lundu.

The victim is believed to have exited the P-turn without stopping and unfortunately, the pick-up truck driven by a 52-year-old man from the opposite direction, collided with the victim’s motorcycle, causing him to be thrown off his machine.

“Paramedics rushed the boy to Lundu Hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries during the journey.

“His body has been handed over to the hospital for post-mortem examination,” he said.

Meanwhile, the 52-year-old pick-up truck driver escaped unscathed in the collision.

Damataries said the case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
