KUCHING: Temburong Bridge will be a connecting point for carrying out activities involving organisers from Brunei Darussalam and Sarawak upon its completion.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tengah Ali Hasan suggested holding of programmes such as cycling, powerboat and marathon involving both parties.

“Of course it will create excitement in Temburong and nearby areas such as the Limbang and Lawas districts,” he said at Brunei Darussalam’s National Day celebration at the Brunei Darussalam consulate here Saturday.

According to him, the bridge from Muara to Temburong will be among the longest bridges in Asean.

“Bilateral ties between the government of Brunei Darussalam and the Sarawak government have long existed and we have also established a subcommittee to discuss cooperation such as tourism, agro and trade.

In terms of relevance, Awang Tengah thanked Brunei Darussalam and the Royal Brunei Airline for returning the Bandar Seri Begawan-Kuching route.

“We hope with the return of this route, the tourism sector from both sides will grow.
