KUALA TERENGGANU: Terengganu is hoping that two events, namely, canoeing and rowing will be contested at the 20th Malaysia Games (Sukma) to strengthen the contingent’s position as defending champions at the biennial tournament to be held in Johor in 2020.
State Youth Development, Sports and Non-Government Organisation Committee (NGO) Committee chairman Wan Sukairi Wan Abdullah said at present, many potential athletes who had contributed medals at the 2018 SUKMA were still eligible to participate in the championship.“Based on statistics, we have the potential to maintain the championship as 483 athletes under the Sukma 2018 programme are still eligible to compete at the next Sukma.
“Of the total, we have about 163 athletes who contributed medals including many gold medal winners and they have started training under the 2020 Sukma programme since Nov 1,” he said. – Bernama
