KUCHING: The public have been urged to understand the role of news reporters which is to look at facts and present them to the best of their skills and knowledge.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo spoke on this to reporters while commenting on a Berita Harian reporter in Malaya who was threatened several days ago.

He admitted that there are always some people who do not agree with certain media reports, but those who disagreed with a report or want the subject matter to be seen in a different light or context, there are non-violent ways to go about it.

“For example, they can contact the reporter to express their views and correct the context and facts,” he said when attending a ‘Juh Berambeh’ programme yesterday at Borneo 744, Bintawa.

He strongly condemned any illegal acts against reporters such as the use of violence.

“I hoped the police would investigate the case and take the proper actions if needed,” he said.
