Three men get prison time for robbing convenience store

KUCHING: Three men were each sentenced to three years in prison by the Sessions Court here for robbing a 24-hour convenience store of RM3,273 in cash, in February last year.

Mohd Amirul Husini (29), Kamal Abak (30) and Reynolds Cassey Julong Patrick (23), each pleaded guilty to one charge read together before Judge Afidah Abdul Rahman on today (May 11).

They were charged with robbing the store located at Jalan Song Thian Cheok at about 5.15am on Feb 9 last year.

They were charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 34 of the same Act.

Based on the facts of the case, during the incident, the male complainant was working with one of his female colleagues when he was approached by two unknown men wearing face masks and hats.

Then, the first offender (Amirul) took out an axe and proceeded to the payment counter and took money from the cash machine amounting to RM3,273 while the second offender (Kamal) was holding a kerambit knife.

Meanwhile, the third offender (Reynolds) was outside the store acting as a lookout. The trio then fled in a vehicle.

Immediately after the incident, the complainant made a police report for further action, and the trio were arrested on Feb 17 last year.

Deputy public prosecutor Iezzah Iburdanisha Ibrahim prosecuted the case while the accused were not represented legal counsel.
