SIBU: Three local men were arrested after turning Jalan Awang Ramli Amit at Dataran Sibu into their racing circuit.

Sibu Police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the operation codenamed ‘Op Samseng Jalanan’ was held from 9 pm until 2.30 am on Wednesday by police from district police headquarters (IPD).

“A total of 43 men and five women were inspected during the operation and three of them were arrested.

“The three aged 18, 20, and 21 are being investigated under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving and Section 108 of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said in a statement on Aug 31.

Zulkipli said that 19 motorcycles were also confiscated during the operation for documentation purposes.

“Several offences and summonses were issued to motorists for various traffic offences during the operation.

“Among them are not having a driving licence, fancy number plates, no side mirrors, brake not functional, and modified exhaust systems,” he said.

In the meantime, Zulkipli urged everyone to obey traffic laws and reminded parents to keep an eye on their children and make sure they always abide by the rules.
