Dayak leaders to host Gawai open house

KUCHING: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and 16 other Dayak leaders will host a Gawai open house at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here on June 1.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang will be the guests of honour at the event.

The Gawai open house at BCCK is open to the public. It will be held from 10am-4pm.

Among the 16 other Dayak leaders hosting the open house are Minister of Works Datuk Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Datuk Sri Dr.Stephen Rundi Utom, Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk John Sikie Tayai and Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs) Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong.

Others are Deputy Minister of Transport (Aviation and Road) Datuk Dr.Jerip Susil, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts II (Creative Industry and Performing Arts) Datuk Snowdan Lawan, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development II (Port Development) Datuk Majang Renggi, Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication (Telecommunication) Datuk Liwan Lagang, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala, Deputy Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment, Datuk Dr.Malcolm Mussem Lamoh, Deputy Minister of Transport (Maritime and Riverine) Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, Deputy Minister of Youth, Sport and Entrepreneurship Development, Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development II (Talent Development) Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government I (Public Health and Housing) Datuk Dr.Penguang Manggil, Deputy Minister in Premier’s Department (Native Customs and Law), Jefferson Jamit Unyat, and Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development (Commodity and Regional Development) Martin Ben.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife Datin Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as well as Abang Johari and Juma’ani are expected to grace the State-level Gawai Dayak celebration dinner on June 7 at the same venue.
