Three youths nabbed for stealing car batteries

MIRI: Police have arrested three youths in their 20s, who were allegedly active in stealing car batteries in the Pujut area.

They were nabbed around midnight on Dec 27 after an alert resident caught them   in the act on his closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera.

The youths were believed responsible for several missing car batteries from residential homes in the Pujut 8C area here.

Sources said the victim immediately alerted the police  and called the four resident committees in Pujut, Saberkas, Permyjaya and Piasau for help.

Responding to the tip-off, a mobile police vehicle (MPV) together with the resident committee members rushed to the scene and successfully apprehended the suspects.

Police also seized eight car batteries, believed stolen from other houses in the area, that were kept inside a wheelie garbage bin.

All three youths have been detained to facilitate investigations into the case.
