LIMBANG: The appointment of former Bukit Mas assemblyman Datuk Mutang Tagal as the 20th Dewan Negara president is considered highly credible.

Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan expressed pride and confidence in Mutang’s abilities and experience for the position.

“This is not something new for him, as he has previously held the position of Member of Parliament for two terms.

“With his experience, he will undoubtedly carry out his duties and responsibilities effectively,” he stated during his Chinese New Year visit to Limbang District on Monday (Feb 19).

Awang Tengah also expressed gratitude that Sarawak natives were given the opportunity to hold the position of Dewan Negara president.

Previously, Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar also served in this role before being appointed as the 8th Governor of Sarawak on Jan 26.

During his visit, Awang Tengah, who is also the Bukit Sari assemblyman, visited five houses, including the residence of Datin Lim Sui En, the wife of the late Temenggong Ang Keng Su; Limbang Hokkien Association chairman David Chua Kien Teen, community leaders Pemanca Leong Boon Meng and Penghulu Chua Beng Soon, as well as the residence of businessman Lim Chwee Cheng.
