KUCHING: The Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) is extending the Sarawak Tourism Ambassador Programme to the State Civil Service.

STB Chief Executive Officer, Sharzede Salleh Askor, said Sarawak made history by becoming the first state to introduce a tourism awareness module for e-hailing drivers under this Ambassador Programme in 2020.

“With 1,000 Grab Malaysia drivers participating in our e-learning and e-hailing programme, we have taken pioneering steps to lay the foundation for a new era of tourism hospitality.

“Now, I am pleased to announce that we are extending the Sarawak Tourism Ambassador Programme to the State Civil Service.

“As the backbone of our administrative machinery, the civil service holds a position of trust and unique influence in our society,” she said.

“Their role is not only about paperwork and regulations but shaping the narrative of our state, both domestically and internationally.”

She was speaking at the launch of the Sarawak Tourism Ambassador Programme at the Sarawak State Library Auditorium here Tuesday (April 30).

The launching ceremony was officiated by Deputy Minister of Tourism, Datuk Sebastian Ting, representing the Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

Sharzede said the civil service has the power to inspire change, to lead by example, and to showcase the best of what Sarawak has to offer.

“This ambassadorial programme goes beyond mere promotion. It is about continuously enhancing our tourism-related services, ensuring every visitor receives an unforgettable experience that will resonate far and wide, positioning Sarawak as a competitive global destination and recognised,” she said.
