Traffic cops nab two motorists in ‘Ops Mabuk’

‘Ops Mabuk’ being conducted at Jalan Kota Samarahan Expressway early this week.

KOTA SAMARAHAN: Traffic police arrested two drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol in an operation codenamed ‘Ops Mabuk’ recently.

According to the Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, the operation was held along Jalan Kota Samarahan Expressway with 10 police personnel from the Kota Samarahan traffic police division.

The team initially detained five motorists for preliminary tests to detect alcohol content in their body.

However, results found that two of them tested positive for alcohol content that exceeded the allowable limit.

Both the drivers were arrested under Section 45A (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence of alcohol, which carries up to RM10,000 fine or up to five years imprisonment and a potential five-year licence disqualification, upon conviction.

The department reminds all road users to obey the laws and regulations of the road.

Strict action will be taken against those found driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

The department also highlighted its commitment to conduct such operation from time to time to crackdown on drink driving.
