KUCHING: Three poomsae athletes from Sarawak have been called up to the national team to participate in the 16th ASEAN Taekwondo Federation Championship slated from March 10 to 12 in Manila, Philippines.

The three athletes are Fedealis Kom Twin alongside siblings Nurul Hidayah Abdul Karim and Nurul Humaira Abdul Karim from Sarawak Taekwondo Association (WTF).

Sarawak Taekwondo Association president Azizul Annuar Adenan expressed his delight and he was proud of Sarawakian athletes for being called up by the national association again to represent the nation to take part in this ASEAN regional event.

“This championship is on the same level as the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games).

“Both Hidayah and Humaira have put in a great performance to make our nation proud in the 31st SEA Games 2022 in Vietnam and the World Taekwondo Poomsae Championship 2022 in Goyang, South Korea, just to name a few.

“Fedealis also did well and brought home a gold medal for Sarawak in the recent 13th TM (WTF)-NSC-Milo National Taekwondo Championship 2023 in Kuala Lumpur while also bagging a silver medal in the 15th ASEAN Taekwondo Federation Championship held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam last year,” he said.

Azizul added that he was proud of Sarawak for managing to produce great athletes for Malaysia to shine nationally again.

“The only thing I wish from our young talent is to do their best to showcase their skills and gain valuable experience from other strong national and international players,” Azizul added.
