Truck driver escapes unhurt in crash

MIRI: A cement truck driver escaped unharmed in an accident at Pujut 7 intersection here on this morning (Oct 12).

The incident was caught by a dash cam of a car around 8am.

In the 52-second video clip, the cement truck is seen heading fast, approaching a traffic light, towards the city centre from Lutong. At that time, several vehicles have started coming out of the intersection from Piasau to Permyjaya. The truck then almost hit the front side of a car in the middle of the intersection before it rolled over and crashed into a traffic light pole.

The accident has led to a traffic jam along the Lutong Bridge heading towards the city centre.

No injuries or casualties were reported.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu, when contacted today (Oct 12), said the actual cause of the incident has yet to be determined and investigations are ongoing.

“Investigations are being carried out to determine whether the truck driver was engaging in red light running prior to the accident,” he said.
