KUCHING:  The Tun Jugah Foundation has announced the publication of its newest book titled A Meeting Of Mediums: 1995 Conference of the Sarawak Iban Manang, Kapit, Sarawak, Malaysia.

The book is the latest addition to its comprehensive list of significant publications on Iban knowledge and culture.

An effort of two decades of translation and editing, the 378-page book which includes both Iban and English text, contains a detailed report of the proceedings of the conference.

The conference, the first of its kind insofar as the media fraternity is aware, brought three dozen (36) Iban shamans (manang) and one dozen (12) soul-guides (tukang sabak) to Kapit to participate in organised sessions over a three-day period.

The sessions covered topics such as the mythology of Iban shamanism, personal calls of every individual shaman, and a variety of healing rituals performed by shamans.

This book will be of interest to anthropologists, folklorists, linguists, psychiatrists, psychologists, students at institutions of higher learning, lecturers, and teachers.
