KUCHING: Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) must keep up with the changing demands of the digital age as technology continues to advance at an unprecedented pace.

Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn said digital transformation in TVET involves the integration of digital technologies into the learning process, curriculum development, and skill acquisition.

“By leveraging digital tools, TVET institutions can enhance teaching and learning experiences, bridge gaps in access to education, and prepare learners for the digital jobs of the future,” he said.

Sagah’s speech was read out his deputy Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee during the opening ceremony of  7th Technology & Innovation International Conference (TECHON) 2023 at Waterfront Hotel here today.

The minister said one of the key advantages of digital transformation in TVET is the ability to provide flexible and personalised learning experiences.

“This flexibility caters to diverse learning styles and ensures that no one is left behind on their educational journey,” he said.

Sagah said digital transformation in TVET fosters collaboration and connectivity.

“Online platforms and social networks provide learners with the opportunity to connect with industry professionals, mentors, and fellow learners.

“This facilitates knowledge exchange and networking, exposing learners to real-world challenges, industry trends, and innovative solutions.

“It effectively bridges the gap between classroom learning and the workplace, preparing learners for the practical application of their skills,” he added.

However, he said, it is important to recognise that the integration of digital technologies in TVET requires adequate training and professional development for educators.

“To effectively incorporate digital tools into their teaching practices, TVET educators need to be equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge.

“Continuous upskilling and reskilling of educators are essential to ensure that they are well-prepared to guide learners in the digital era,” he told.
