Two deaths bring tally to 249

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded two new Covid-19 fatalities yesterday (May 22), bringing the state’s death toll to 249.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the 248th death was Case 41,233, a 75-year-old local woman who was referred to Miri Hospital upon experiencing breathing difficulty.

“The case was found to be symptomatic with cough and fever four days ago. A reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (rT-PCR) test was done and it returned positive on May 20.

“Her health deteriorated and she passed away on May 20. She had high blood pressure, diabetes, and chronic kidney disease,” SDMC said in its daily Covid-19 update.

The 249th death was Case 41,257, a 77-year-old local man who was also referred to Miri Hospital due to breathing difficulty.

“The case began experiencing breathing difficulty and fatigue over the past five days.

“His health started deteriorating and he passed away on May 21. An rt-PCR test screening test was also made where he was found positive on the same day of his death,” it added.

It also mentioned that the case had heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes.
