KUCHING: Two men looking for mussels at Buntal Esplanade in Kampung Buntal here drowned after they were swept away by strong currents in the wee hours today.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said it received a distress call at 12.47 am and despatch a team to the scene.
A spokesman said three men who were looking for mussels were swept away by strong currents but only one of the managed to save himself.
The body of the first victim, Mohamad Amin Umar, 39, was recovered at 3.30 am about 400 metres from the scene of the incident while the body of Awang Khairul Aziq Awang Chula, 25, was found at 3.42 am.
The bodies were handed over to the police for further action.
