KUCHING: Two local patients received monetary donations from Magnum East Malaysia (Magnum) through the MagnumCares Community Support Programme.

The beneficiaries Lau Foh Liang and Lee Shing Ted each received RM1,500 in assistance to help with their living expenses and also for their medical treatments.

Lau shared his family’s struggles after he suffered from brain cramps while Lee is suffering from cardiovascular disease and kidney failure. Both are from Serian.

Magnum ENE East Malaysia regional operations manager Liew Kee Chuan said they applied for the MagnumCares to alleviate their burden.

He said as the cost of living continues to rise each day, the needy have expressed their thanks for assistance by MagnumCares in subsidising their medical expenditure.

“Since MagnumCares began in 2009, our office here has assisted more than 200 cases to help the underserved community with medical assistance and treatments, help ease their daily struggles and support their livelihood.

“As a nationwide year-long programme, more than RM150,000 in donation will be contributed to the local community every year, to help underprivileged groups with their medical expenses as well as improving their wellbeing,” he said.

As the cost of living is getting higher and more expensive, he noted that everyone needs to be mindful of certain groups of people who are struggling to make ends meet.

“We are aware of the daily struggles and challenges of the underprivileged community, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We live in the same society, hence, we are committed to help our fellow Malaysians in times in need and continue to empower the society with more impactful and significant CSR programmes,” added Liew.
