TATAU: Two women cheated death after the car they were travelling in plunged into a ravine at KM50 Sibu-Bintulu Road on Tuesday afternoon.

It is understood that the car went out of control before going into the 30-foot-deep ravine.

Members of the public who witnessed the incident were able to pull the 58-year-old driver out of the car, but were unable to do the same with the 56-year-old passenger who was trapped in her seat.

Tatau Fire Station chief, Nazari said nine personnel were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at 1.18pm and arrived at 2.00pm.

He said the trapped victim was extricated by rescuers shortly after and was rushed along with the driver to Selangau Health Clinic for further treatment.
