MIRI: Two women suspected of selling illegal lottery tickets were arrested by police during two separate raids in Tudan here last Sunday.

Acting on information received, a police team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) carried out the operation which began at 4.15pm and ended at 4.45pm.

Miri District Deputy Police chief, Supt Stanley Jonathan Ringgit when contacted confirmed the arrests and said the women were 20 and 25 years old.

“Police also seized two calculators, two mobile phones, two portable printers, five pieces of paper believed to be betting slips and RM531 in cash,” he said.

Stanley said the suspects and the seized items were taken to Miri Central Police Station for further investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 4A(a) of the Open Gaming House Act, 1953, he said.
