LIMBANG: The Limbang River Embankment Project which is slated to commence on September 20 is expected to be completed in two years.

Deputy Minister for Modernisation of Agriculture and Regional Development Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said two contractors would undertake the effort.

“It involves the project to upgrade the Limbang Riverbank Package 2-Phase 2 and the another to upgrade the Limbang Riverbank Phase 3,” he said.

The Limbang Riverbank Package 2-Phase 2 is a project to repair slope failure involving approximately 250 meters where a landslide occurred.

“In the first phase there was also a landslide and we are still in the process of choosing a contractor to carry out repairs.

“For the second phase, it also experienced a landslide problem and was quite complicated to fix,” he said in a press conference after handing over the contract to the contractor at the Limbang District Council Meeting Room, recently.

He added that the Department of Drainage and Irrigation (DID) and Public Works Department (PWD) estimate cost to be almost RM30 million.

Rahman who is also Bukit Kota assemblyman added that the Limbang River Bank Phase 3 is also important to ensure there is no missing link between Phase 1 of the Information Centre Building and the Limbang Guest House which is separated by the Customs and Immigration building.

“The Premier of Sarawak has already agreed to provide an allocation to build a pedestrian bridge where the Customs and Immigration building will not be demolished so we will build an elevated bank that connects to the Guest House.

“What is more unique is that this package also involves the construction of additional guest buildings for business facilities,” he explained.
He is confident that this project when completed will become one of the tourist attractions in Limbang district as it is one of the longest waterfronts in Sarawak.
