KUCHING: Wife of the Head of State Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi has been appointed as the patron for the Girl Guides Association of Malaysia (GGAM) Sarawak Branch effective January 26.
Sarawak GGAM chairperson Datuk Dayang Morliah Datuk Awang Daud said, the appointment was made in accordance with Section 2, Article 4 of the Girl Guides Association of Malaysia, Sarawak Branch’s constitution.
“The patron must be the wife of the Sarawak Governor or an individual who is qualified and suitable to hold the position and Alhamdulillah, Toh Puan Fauziah was honoured to accept this appointment.
“We hope that with the presence of our patron, the Sarawak Girl Guides will be more active and can progress further,” she said when met by reporters after paying a courtesy call on Fauziah and present the letter of appointment at the Astana Negeri Sarawak here, on Thursday (Feb 29).
Dayang Morliah also invited Fauziah to the Girl Guides Run 2024 programme which will be held on March 3 at Kuching South City Council (MBKS).
“The objective of this run is to raise funds for activities of the association as well as for the purchase of various equipment for its members and office management in addition to renovating the building of the association.
“This programme will involve a total of 1,000 participants comprising of Sarawak Girl Guides members, civil servants, private sectors, and the public.
“We hope that the public will give their support as this programme benefits our girls, improving their skills and leadership qualities,” she added.
Also present were GGAM Sarawak deputy chairwoman Annie Sim, branch chief commissioner Ruth Sibat@Nur Mithali Abdullah, honourary secretary Rukayah Dawi and others.
