Uggah: Ministry to focus on project implementation

THE Ministry of Finance and Economy will focus on the implementation of various development programmes and projects under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).

Deputy Premier cum Second Minister of Finance and Economy Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said a total of 1,104 state funded projects with a budget of RM30 billion have been approved.

“Of this amount, 748 or 67.8 per cent are physical projects while the remaining 356 or 32.2 per cent are non-physical, which include grants, contributions, investments, programmes and events.

“On the other hand, 184 or 24.6 per cent out of 748 physical projects have been completed while the remaining 564 projects or 75.4 per cent are still at various stages of implementation as of March 31.

“The government will continue to accelerate the implementation of scheduled projects while also implementing new methods to reduce and alleviate sick and delayed projects,” he said.

He said this in his ministerial winding-up speech during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting on yesterday (May 23).

Uggah added that a total of 5,255 rural transformation projects with an allocation of RM876.3 million have been approved under the 12MP period.

“As of March this year, a total of 2,936 projects or 55.9 per cent had been completed while the remaining 2,319 projects or 44.1 per cent are still at various stages of implementation.

Meanwhile, he also said that a total allocation of RM1.5 billion was allocated to fund the implementation of 529 approved projects for the years 2021,2022 and 2023 under Projek Rakyat.

“These projects will stimulate the growth and development of Sarawak’s economy, as well as improve the well-being and quality of life of the people, particularly the rural population,” he said.

In the meantime, he said the federal government has approved a total of RM3.34 billion for the implementation of 921 projects under the First Rolling Plan (2021-2022).

“Under the Second Rolling Plan (2022-2023), a total of RM3.24 billion has been allocated for the implementation of 960 projects where in terms of its financial performance, RM3.09 billion or 95.25 per cent of the allocation had been expended as of December 31, 2022,” he added.

Additionally, he said that a total of RM4.12 billion has been approved for the implementation of 1,002 projects under the Third Rolling Plan (2023-2024).

“As of April 2023, 27.6 per cent of the allocation has been spent on the projects.

“In terms of physical performance, 193 of the 1,002 projects have been finished, 195 are in various phases of implementation, 609 are in the pre-implementation stage, and five are awaiting approval from various authorities,” he said.
