KUCHING: Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the state government of Sarawak under Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) yesterday (Apr 1) exchanged memorandum of understanding (MoU) documents for the implementation of the System Communication Infrastructure Permit Management (CIPM) in Sarawak.

The ceremony was held at UCSI Hotel Kuching in connection with the Sarawak Utility and Telecommunication Conference 2022, and was witnessed by the Sarawak Minister of Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Julaihi Narawi.

The memorandum states that Sarawak through SMA has agreed to utilise the CIPM system managed by MCMC to improve the existing permit management process and to decrease expanses of the Sarawak state.

The system will ensure that the tower structure that is being constructed by the providers will be verified by the state, and is able to differentiate the operation of unauthorized telecommunication towers.

Besides that, it is an effort of providing and improving areas without coverage effectively and at the same time initiate the ‘pemutihan’ programme.

With this, Sarawak will be the number 10 state that will be using the CIPM system, including Perlis, Pulau Pinang, Terengganu, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Perak, Kuala Lumpur and Labuan.
