Unemployed man arrested for peddling drugs

KUCHING: An unemployed man from Jalan Stutong was arrested under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

Acting on a tip-off, a narcotics team raided a house in Taman Sin Hai Min at 4.30 pm on Thursday and arrested the suspect.

An assortment of drugs was found in the house which included a plastic pack containing six ecstasy pills weighing 2.84 gram, one crystalline crystal packet containing suspected ketamine weighing 2.25g), a packet of mixed fruit juice powder and ecstasy powder weighing 18.80g.

Police also seized a card to a hotel room and at 5.45 pm the same day, the suspect led police to a house at Jalan Tawi Sli here where more drugs were found. Here police seized ten packages of mixed fruit juices and ecstasy powder weighing 202.70g, a container with 32 packets which contained crystalline crystal suspected to be ketamine, weighing 6.47g and a transparent plastic package
containing 15 ecstasy pills, weighing 6.47g.

Total market value of the drugs seized was estimated at RM9,310.

Gadgets like a sealer and weighing device were also seized.

Initial investigations revealed that the suspect began his activity in March last year supplying drugs to entertainment outlets in the city.

He was also tested positive for drugs and could be charged under Section 15(1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Sarawak head of Narcotics Supt Sahar Abd Latif said the suspect had been detained for further questioning.
