KUCHING: Unity within a multiracial, multi-religious, and multicultural society is paramount for the greater common good.

In stating this, Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Datuk Peter Minos emphasised that it is unity that binds people together.

“Disunity, on the reverse, brings about division and dissension. It can even lead to ultimate disruption and destruction of society and nation.

“It is unity that sees the multi-racial MPKS staff working together for the common good of the council in the community that they serve.

“This is the same for Sarawak that is thriving in unity and progressing in harmony,” he said.

He said this in his speech during the MPKS pre Gawai and post Hari Raya dinner on Friday (May 25).

He said though there are many things related to history, culture and geography that helped in creating and attaining unity, top leaders do play a vital role in the matter.

“If the leaders of many races, religions and cultures work in unity and cooperation, all will follow and emulate.

“Everybody looks up to the words and actions of the leaders. When leaders unite, so does society. However, disunity among the leaders is a road to division and destruction.

“It is thus with pride and happiness to say that Sarawakians unite and live peacefully and harmoniously with each other primarily because the leaders are united for the interest in the common good of Sarawak,” he said.
