KUCHING: Industrial training is a crucial platform for undergraduates to gain insight into the country’s workforce, thus enabling them to become relevant and meet market demand.

In June earlier this year, Tribune Press Sdn Bhd and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) initiated a collaborative journalism project with the aim of elevating professionalism in the local journalism field.

Through this collaboration, five final year students of Communication Studies from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities were given the opportunity to apply what they had learned and gain exposure in the field of journalism.

New Sarawak Tribune are delighted to learn that the interns have enjoyed their 10 weeks of internship, with new skills cultivated and plenty of experiences to take away.

‘‘It’s a pleasure to be given the golden opportunity to be a part of New Sarawak Tribune albeit the short duration. The hands-on exposure and experience have sparked a passion for journalism in me which I was not aware of and also made me realise the importance of a journalist’s role. Despite what has been said about the gloomy future of the printed media industry, there is still a glimmer of hope because people still refer to the media as a reliable source of information.”

“Thank you, New Sarawak Tribune, you have given me nothing but the best of time. The people, the ambience, I’m hooked! I must say that my internship in NST was worthwhile. I wish I was given more time to enhance both my skills and knowledge and also find my true passion. Plus, there is so much more I want to learn from the seniors. Anyhow, I have learned that the two most powerful warriors are indeed patience and time.”
