KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is not joining Pakatan Harapan (PH), Barisan Nasional (BN) and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) although they are together in the federal unity government.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said that they may have formed the government together with PH, BN and GRS but it does not mean that they are together as a coalition as they are still fighting as GPS, which still aims to create stability and the priority is still ‘Sarawak First’.

“We did not join PH, we formed this unity government based on the wishes and advice of the King so now this is not a PH government nor a BN government.

“I do not know how this Cabinet will work in the future but we pray that even in a ‘forced marriage’, we can still have a harmonious family, which is our goal as GPS is always here to ensure the stability of the country and the people come first.

“I am here to give explanation to our members because there are still some who do not understand and thought that when we joined to form the unity government, they thought we have joined PH,” he said this during the ‘Live Viewing World Cup 2022 Programme’ organised by Pemuda Tupong at Taman Sri Wangi here.

He added that history has been made after GPS’ endeavour across Sarawak which has contributed to the landslide victory in Petra Jaya.

“This is the first time we have won with such a huge majority and in terms of this huge number, this is not a win for me but a win for all of us.

“It is like what the Premier said, everyone is looking for us (to form the government) and if we did not decide to do it (form the government), a government will not be formed,” he stated.

Friday night’s encounter between Brazil and Croatia saw the game all tied up at 1-1 after extra time and Croatia pulled off an upset in the penalty shootout by beating Brazil 4-2.

Brazil and its superstar Neymar did not have their best game throughout the match and Croatia persevered with its goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic, who was the standout performer and made 11 saves in the 120 minutes, saving Brazil’s Rodrygo’s first effort in the penalty shootout before Brazil’s Marquinhos missed his spot-kick which sent Croatia into the semi-final.

Among those present were Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman and Kuching City FC’s Joseph Kalang Tie.
