Local authorities raiding the premises in Serian.

SERIAN: A swiftlet bird’s nest company located at Taman Batu Gong, Mile 18, Jalan Kuching-Serian has been raided for carrying out the activity without a licence.

The company was raided at around 10.30am following complaints by the general public of noise coming from the premises. 

According to a spokesperson of the state Forest Department, a check on the premise was conducted and found modifications had been made to turn it into a birdhouse.

“During the inspection, the owner failed to show any permit or licence concerning the bird nest company,” the statement said.

Among the items seized during the raid included 28 units of speakers, and one thermometer.

The confiscation of items was conducted under the Wild Life Protection Ordinance 1998 Section 33 (2) b for building a birdhouse without a license or permit from the Wildlife Controller.

Besides Sarawak Forest Department, other agencies involved in the raid were Land and Survey Department Samarahan Branch, the police, Serian District Council and Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC).
