BAU: Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep said he would leave it up to the higher-ups to decide whether to increase DUN sitting allowance for state assemblymen,
He acknowledged the allowance of RM50 a day for an elected representative had remained unchanged for many years.
“Hence, we leave it to the higher-ups to decide on the matters concerning the allowance,” he said when met by reporters here yesterday.
He was prompted for comments on the proposed increase in sitting allowance by Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad when debating on the motion of appreciation to the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud during the just concluded DUN sitting.
Henry said that the allowance of RM50 per day had been constant since 42 years ago.
Meanwhile, Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg during the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Backbenchers Dinner on Thursday (May 26) agreed in principle to increase the attendance allowance or sitting allowance for state assemblymen in the DUN.
“It is appropriate. The existing rate had been used for decades,” he said.
