Upcoming Sarawak Regatta gets Petros sponsorship

KUCHING: Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) has sponsored a sum of RM500,000 for the organisation of the Sarawak Regatta which will held early November. 

This contribution was made as part of the company’s Government-Linked Company (GLC) Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in conjunction with the upcoming Sarawak Regatta scheduled to take place from Oct 27 to Nov 5. 

Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the ministry is grateful for any contributions from various parties, including the private sector, government agencies and GLCs to enhance and support any tourism event held in the state. 

“The Sarawak Regatta as well as the International Dragon Boat Festival which will be held this weekend and subsequently the first week of November will see a hive of activities in the Kuching Waterfront area. 

“Therefore, we are very happy to acknowledge the presence of Petros for helping us in making sure the regatta and dragon boat race is a success,” he said prior to the sponsorship mock cheque presentation from Petros  here, Tuesday (Oct 24).

The Sarawak International Dragon Boat Regatta will be held from Oct 27-29, while the Sarawak Regatta Boat Race is slated to be held the following week (Nov 3-5).

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to officiate the dragon boat race on Oct 28 (Saturday). 

Other activities that will be held during the Sarawak Regatta are the Sarawak Kitchen Festival and Borneo Textile Craft Sale, cultural performances, Sarawak Malay Drum Competition and others.

Also present at the press conference were deputy minister Datuk Sebastian Ting, Petros chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Hamid Bugo, Petros group chief executive officer Datuk Janin Girie, Petros vice president for Human Capital and Relations, Ismail Said and ministry permanent secretary Datuk Sherrina Hussaini.
