BAU: Seventeen residents in the district were evacuated to two temporary relief centres (PPS) following rising floods this morning caused by continuous downpour since Monday night (Feb 27).

The victims from seven families are from Kampung Tanjung Batu and Kampung Opar.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the Dewan Tanjung Batu Tasik Biru PPS and Balai Raya Kampung Opar PPS were opened at 6.40am and 7am respectively to house the victims.

As at 9.30 am, 13 victims from six families are seeking shelter at Dewan Tanjung Batu Tasik Biru PPS, and a family of four are sheltered at Balai Raya Kampung Opar PPS.

SDMC later said the Dewan Tanjung Batu Tasik Biru PPS had to be closed at 11 am due to lack of facilities.

Thirteen victims from six families have been transferred to a new relief centre at Dewan Perdana, Bau fire station.
