BETONG: The UPU2U Outreach Programme 2023 for Sarawak zone is a proactive step to support the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) of the state government, emphasising free education for Sarawakian children who wish to continue their studies at higher education institutions.

This initiative is organised by the Ministry of Higher Education in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) and various public and private higher education institutions in Sarawak.

Deputy Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Razi Sitam said the two-day programme aims to provide support for students pursuing higher education.

“This programme is an example of active involvement by the higher education community and public and private institutions in reaching out to the community. This approach can provide exposure to the importance and opportunities for higher education to the public,” he said during the opening ceremony of the programme held at the Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Sports Hall here, recently.

“The Sarawak government continues to strengthen higher education through institutions like University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) and focuses on technical and vocational training (TVET).

“The Premier also emphasises TVET education to support PCDS 2030 so that the state’s population will progress technologically and innovatively by 2030,” said Razi.

He also expressed hope that this programme will continue and expand throughout Sarawak.

The event was attended by Unimas vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi, among others.
