SIBU: Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee has called on every strata of society to play a role in maintaining harmony and peace in a pluralistic society.

In making the call, he said, the cultivation of pure values in all sectors of life must be the main agenda so that prosperity and peace continue in the life cycle of society.

“The enforcement of the law is aimed at safeguarding the welfare of the ummah from straying into an uncivilised life and the wrath of Allah.

“In addition, the law also invites and encourages members of the community, including its leaders, to do the right thing. It promotes the common good in the community and generates a peaceful co-existence by promoting tolerance between clans or community groups,” he said.

He said this in his speech delivered by the Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Sayed Azmee Wan Junaidi who represented him at the closing of the Discourse on the Syariah Criminal Offences Ordinance 2001 here yesterday (Sept 12).

In this regard, Dr Annuar is confident that the efforts to provide information and understanding about sharia law have been carried out continuously and comprehensively by the departments involved.

In addition, he said, enforcement and prosecution are two things that move hand in hand to ensure the enforcement of Sharia law is handled efficiently, transparently and in accordance with the law in order to dignify the sharia legal system especially in Sarawak.

Dr Annuar said the enforcement of the Sharia criminal law needs to be intensified with a wise and prudent strategy to ensure the rights of Muslims are guaranteed and defended.

“We understand that the implementation of the law aims to uphold justice to foster harmony and ensure order in society.

“Regardless of the law that is enforced in the country, the goal is to create justice and shape the personality of a human being in the construction of a harmonious society,” he added.
