Varsity urged to develop farming entrepreneurs

BINTULU: University Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus (UPMKB) can be a pioneer in developing farming entrepreneurs towards ensuring the country’s self-sufficiency in the agro-food industry.

Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, who is also the UPM chancellor said this when he officiated at the university’s 46th convocation ceremony here today (November 1).

“UPMKB could develop farming entrepreneurs through its curriculum alongside the education support system.

“That being said, UPMKB can be further developed from the aspect of infrastructure so that the student’s interest towards the farming programme can be fostered and preserved,” he said.

He congratulated UPM for its success in being placed at 123rd on the QS World University Ranking 2023 adding that UPM was on track to be listed in the 100’s best university in the world by 2025.

At the ceremony, Sultan Sharafuddin presented scrolls to a total of 405 graduates including Doctorate of Philosophy (PHD), Master’s degree, Bachelor’s degree and diplomas in multiple studies programme.

Also present was speaker of Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN), Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, Minister in the Premier’s Office, Datuk John Sikie Tayai, Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Roland Sagah Wee and Deputy Minister of Port Development Datuk Majang Renggi.
