MIRI: A man slashed a vegetable seller who refused to lend him money with a knife which caused the vegetable seller to suffer injuries on his head and left wrist in his house at Tudan here, yesterday morning.

Miri Deputy Police chief Superintendent Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the incident came to light when a neighbour found the victim lying motionless at around 1am and immediately called the emergency line for assistance.

“The victim claimed that while he was at home a man known to him came to his house wanting to borrow money from him but the victim refused which caused the man to take out a machete (parang) and slashed the victim before he escaped,” Stanley said when contacted.

Stanley added that the victim is living with his handicapped 10-year-old son.

The injured man is receiving treatment at Miri Hospital and is in stable condition.

“The police are still investigating the case,” he said.
