KUCHING: A Vietnamese woman was fined RM10,000, in default four months’ imprisonment, by the Sessions Court here for overstaying after her social visit pass expired in December last year.

H Bui Bya, 26, from Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam pleaded guilty on Wednesday (Feb 1) after a charge under Section 15 (1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 was read before Judge Afidah Abdul Rahman.

She was charged for overstaying after the social visit pass issued on Nov 7, 2022 expired on Dec 6, 2022.

Bui Bya committed the offence when she was arrested by the authorities in a room at a budget hotel in Jalan Padungan at about 7.40pm on Dec 9, 2022.

Meanwhile, in the Magistrates’ Court, the accused pleaded not guilty to a charge under Section 372B of the Penal Code for being involved in the activity of providing sexual services on the same day the accused was arrested.

Magistrate Zaiton Anuar allowed the accused to be released on a RM1,000 bail with one local surety and set for the case to be mentioned again on March 15.

The prosecution of the case was handled by deputy public prosecutor Danial Mohamad Ali and prosecuting officer Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
