BINTULU: State Assembly Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, is confident voters in Jepak constituency are mature and will make the right choice when they go to the polls on Nov 4.

He is of the opinion that they will do so for the sake of continued development  in the area.

Their solid support is very important to ensure Gabungan Parti Sarawak candidate Iskandar Turkee wins the Jepak state by-election, he said.

“We want the people in the Jepak constituency to translate their support onto the ballot paper and choose only the GPS candidate so that development can continue in this area.

“Use your rights as voters by making a wise choice for the future of the younger generation,” he said during an engagement with leaders in a casual (santai) programme at Kampung Jepak, here on Monday (Oct 23).

Therefore, he hoped voters will come out in large numbers on polling day as a sign of support for the GPS government, not only to continue the legacy left by the late Datuk Talib Zulpilip, but also to make this area a new administrative centre like what has been planned by the Sarawak government.

Asfia, said Iskandar is no stranger to most of the residents in the area since he who comes from Kampung Sebiew, here.

In fact, his family has contributed a lot to the local community in Bintulu, he said.

Iskandar’s experience as the former director of the Sarawak National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) also gives him an advantage in terms of reaching out to young people, he added.

The Jepak by-election will see a three-cornered contest featuring GPS candidate Iskandar Turkee, Parti Bumi Kenyalang, Stevenson Joseph Sumbang, and Chieng Lea Ping (ASPIRASI).

The Jepak seat became vacant following the passing of its incumbent, the late Datuk Talib Zulpilip on Sept 15.
