Wan J humbled by ‘Tan Sri’ title

KUCHING: Tan Sri Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said he is honoured to be conferred the Darjah Kebesaran Panglima Setia Mahkota (PSM) award which carries the title ‘Tan Sri’.

The former minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law), was among the 839 recipients of the federal awards, honours and medals in conjunction with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s official birthday yesterday (June 5).

“It has been a long and trying journey. Nevertheless, the award is a great recognition for the little things that I did and I am truly honoured to receive it.

“My family and I are humbled by the title it brings,” he told New Sarawak Tribune.

At the same time, he also conveyed his appreciation to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for recommending him for the award.

“I also want to express my gratitude to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for bestowing me the PSM award,” he said.

Wan Junaidi, 78, had held many positions. He had also served as the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment from 2015 to 2018 and the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative from 2020 to 2021.

The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) member was also the Deputy Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat and the Deputy Home Minister from 2013 to 2015.

Wan Junaidi had previously served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Santubong from 2004 to 2022. He was MP for Batang Lupar from 1990 to 2004.
