KUCHING: “In life, we are given the choice to be happy and calm. Don’t opt for the tragic side,” said Youth and Sports Assistant Minister Datuk Snowdan Lawan (pic).

He said this with regard to the departure of Sukma swimmer Ayrton Lim, who was found dead at his home here on Thursday.

“Seek help where necessary because consultation avenues are available at government hospitals and non-governmental organisations/bodies.

“Dark and gloomy days are not necessarily the end of the world. Set a new focus and start anew, especially teenagers.”

Snowdan also reiterated that depression has become a serious threat to the present society.

“Taking one’s life may end the suffering, but your loved ones, parents and siblings alike, have to bear the guilt you left behind.”

He later expressed his condolences to the family and said, “We have lost a potential aquatic star, a probable gold medallist who could have excelled in the next Sukma Games in Johor.

“Lim had done well in the last Sukma Games in Perak and his passing is regrettable. We will get in touch with the family to render the necessary assistance.”
