KUCHING: Saratok MP Ali Biju and Puncak Borneo MP Willie Mongin will continue to put Sarawak as their top priority and be the voice of Sarawakians at federal level.

The duo, in a joint statement yesterday said, as Sarawakians in the new government led by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, their presence would ensure that Sarawak would be well represented.

“Sarawak’s voice must be heard in this new administration and we hope to execute this duty and responsibility with great courage and determination,” they said.

Both of them said they were responsible to their constituents, who voted for them to represent those in their constituency and in turn bring them development.

“Both our constituencies are rural based and in dire need of development. We cannot deliver development if we choose to be in the Opposition.

“In the government, we have access to all the mechanism available to ensure that the vision of Shared Prosperity is realised by 2030,” they stressed.

They then said the events of the past week had been chaotic.

“We are very aware that our voters, friends and supporters are befuddled and stressed by the fast-paced turn of events that distressed us all. Therefore, it is incumbent upon us to bring clarity and shed light on our stance.

“As events were proceeding at lightning speed, we both conferred and decided that whatever position we took would ultimately be based on one underlying objective — Sarawak’s welfare,” both said.

Willie, Ali and former Sarawak Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) chairman Baru Bian, who is also Selangau MP, were among 11 PKR MPs who left PKR on Feb 24 to form an independent bloc in Parliament.

This was followed by the sacking of former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali and Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin.
