KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) secretary-general Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi (pic) said he feels relief that former PSB deputy president Datuk Dr Jerip Susil is now a part of GPS.
“I am happy he chose PBB. He sure gives us added strength, but equally important is he is on the GPS side,” Alexander said yesterday.
Asked if the party’s latest addition would affect the composition in the State Legislative Assembly, Alexander said: “Dr Jerip is an important person but he is one person, I don’t think he will upset the equilibrium too much.
“Maybe his former party (SUPP) may not be too pleased about it, but then again it was his choice to join PBB,” he told reporters when met at PBB Headquarters. He (Jerip) submitted his application to the chief minister and we didn’t accept it immediately, but we accepted it when it was tabled in the meeting today.”
Nanta dismissed suggestion that PBB is intent on taking more state seats for itself at the expense of the other component parties.
“Let’s put it this way, he applied to join us, meaning that PBB is his choice of party. My personal view is if we pushed him to other component parties, it may not go down well with him. Whether the move would tip the scale, I say no because PBB has always been more than half of the DUN, even before today,” Alexander added.
