KUCHING: Lundu police chief DSP Wong Chee Keong is appealing to members of the public to stop the spread of misleading and fake information on the security and safety of Lundu district.

According to Wong, a video is being circulated depicting the influx of illegal Indonesians with the message that Telok Melano is a free entry point where hundreds of motorcyclists enter the area without any sign of the police and that there were many Indonesians roaming around town without their passport.

“The whole statement is misleading and does not reflect the actual situation at Telok Melano.

“How can there be hundreds of Indonesians roaming freely in Telok Melano without our knowledge. This is false. Besides, the government is already taking action to set up a proper border post with the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and police PGA there which is expected to be operational by year end,” said Wong when contacted by the New Sarawak Tribune here yesterday.

Wong added that there may be occasions where some festivals are going on and it is normal for border relatives and friends to visit one another.

From the photos and videos he viewed, the videos were not actually taken at Telok Melano but at Temajuk which is across the border to which he hoped that the person taking it should he/she be a Malaysian has a valid pass to go there.

He said the only video clip he viewed from the Malaysian side was one showing a police roadblock checking people at the entry point.

Wong warned that the person taking the video and spreading it could be charged with spreading false news with malicious intention.
