Woman among six arrested for drug offences

All six jobless suspects were detained for further investigations.

BAU: A woman was among six jobless individuals arrested for possessing various drugs totalling RM1,460 at three locations around the district today (July 6).

District police chief DSP Poge Nyaon said the suspects, who consisted of five men and a woman aged between 21 and 36, were nabbed by the Bau narcotic police and roadblock personnel from 12am to 6am.

He stated that the first arrest took place at Kampung Daun Singai around 12.08am when roadblock personnel detained a suspicious car for inspection.

“A man and a woman got down from the vehicle and inspections found a plastic packet containing crystalline lumps believed to be syabu on the man.

“The seized drugs weighing 1.02g and the suspects were taken to the Bau narcotics office for further actions,” he told.

Meanwhile, the second arrest involved two men in a house at Kampung Pengkalan around 5am. The team found 12 plastic packets containing crystalline lumps and a can containing 10 Erimin 5 pills inside a bag.

The seized drugs weighing 7.11g and the suspects were also taken to the Bau narcotic office  for further actions.

Poge stated that the third arrest happened around 6am at Jalan Bau-Lundu. It involved two men in a Public Works Department (JKR) guard hut.

“The raiding team found a plastic packet containing crystalline lumps weighing 5.33g inside a sling bag. The drugs and the suspects were also taken to the Bau narcotics office   for further actions.

“Overall, the enforcement teams seized 14.46g of drugs valued at RM1,460. Apart from that, the raids were successful due to public tip-offs,” he said.

Background checks found all five men had past records. Four men were also found to be positive for drugs.

Poge said two cases would  be investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, two cases under Section 12(2) of the same Act and four cases under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act.

If convicted under Section 39A(1), the suspects can face a jail term of up to five years and up to nine lashes of whipping.

Meanwhile, Section 12(1) provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or a jail term of up to five years or both at once, if convicted.

Under Section 15(1)(a), the suspects can be fined up to RM5,000 or sentenced to a jail term of not more than two years and not more than three years’ supervision.
