KUCHING: The Magistrates’ Court here, yesterday sentenced a woman to one year and eight months’ jail for cheating to get free entrance tickets to the 2019 Rainforest World Musical Festival (RWMF) at the Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV).

Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali meted out the sentence on Safferina Talib, after she pleaded guilty under Section 420 of the Penal Code.

It provides for imprisonment of not less than one year and not exceeding 10 years and is liable to whipping and fines, upon conviction.

However, the court allowed the accused to defer the sentence and set bail at RM5,000 with a local surety. She was ordered to report to the nearest police station once a month.

The 36-year-old had cheated Sarren Michael Abu, 46, by saying she was a representative of the chief minister’s daughter to collect 20 pieces of free tickets at the SCV check-in counter on July 12, 2019.

The accused was arrested a day after the incident.
