Woman gets seven months for prostitution

SIBU: An Indonesian woman was sentenced to seven months’ imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday (May 23) for prostitution.

Magistrate Mohd Syukri Mokhtar handed down the sentence after Tatik Wahyuni, 44, from Jawa Tengah, Indonesia, pleaded no contest to the charge which was read and explained to her.

According to the charge sheet, the accused was found to have been soliciting for prostitution in a hotel room at Jalan Pulau at about 4.30pm on May 19.

The offence framed under Section 372B of Penal Code provides for an imprisonment term which may extend to one year or fine or both upon conviction.

The court heard that on May 19 at about 4.30pm, a team of police from Criminal Investigation branch, led by Insp Hairul Hussin conducted a raid at the hotel in Jalan Pulau.

Upon arriving at the scene, the police found the accused and a Chinese man naked inside the room.

Upon inspection, police also found one packet of plastic condom that had been opened and four packets of unused condom suspected to be used for prostitution activity as well as cash money amounting to RM60 .

The accused showed an expired passport when the police requested for identification from her.

Further investigation revealed that the accused offered sex service to her client for a fee of RM60.
