SIBU: Women entrepreneurs must grab opportunities available under the Post-Covid Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

Deputy State Secretary (Operation) Datuk Hii Chang Kee who made the call said PCDS 2030 focuses on three important pillars which are economic prosperity, social inclusivity and sustainable development or environment.

He added that under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, the state is moving fast in terms of its development, and with the possibility of Indonesian capital moving to Kalimantan, it will create another big opportunity for the entrepreneurs.

“All these are big opportunities. Sarawak is a state that is very different, we really focus on the green economy and sustainable economy. We have 67 gazetted national parks. Bako and Semengoh are just two of them.

“So, you can imagine the potential of tourism, the potential of the green economy in Sarawak until 2030,” he said when officiating at the opening of the Borneo Women Entrepreneur Forum 2023 organised by the Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce here yesterday (Feb 25).

Hii deemed the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), which came into effect on January 1, 2022 as a larger economic cooperation alliance than the European Union.

RCEP covers nearly one-third of the world’s population and trade volume, with Malaysia’s Sarawak located at the centre of this new economic bloc, he said, adding if Sarawak can keep pace with the development of RCEP, the state’s economic growth will rise rapidly.

“From recent policies in our country and state, I believe we can all see that the government is moving in this direction. In order to achieve a win-win situation, the government needs full cooperation and support from private enterprises,” he said.

On the forum, Hii congratulated the Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce for successfully organising the two-day event featuring eight local and international speakers.

“I think this is a very good initiative particularly initiated by women entrepreneurs. I hope that in the near future, more outstanding women entrepreneurs will emerge in Sarawak and become important driving forces for Sarawak’s economic development,” he said.
