KUCHING: The Bayur Rural Growth Centre (RGC) is still in the planning phase but construction is expected to start by next year.
Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) Chief Executive Officer Datuk Ik Pahon Joyik said the agency has been engaging with communities in the Bayur area about the project.
He said GKCDA is also in discussion with technical and development agencies about RGC Bayur.
“We aim to start the work on the RGC by next year. There will be shoplots and weekend market for the villagers to sell their produce.
“It will also be a centre for food collection, processing and packaging because the area is an agricultural area with various crops” said Ik on Tuesday (August 1).
Ik said GKCDA is looking at the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) to assist with the project.
RGC Bayur is one of six satellite towns that will be developed under the purview of GKCDA and it will take about two years to complete all the projects.
Previously, Ik said that the cost for all six satellite towns is estimated to be RM20 million.
The construction of the satellite towns is part of the 228 projects under GKCDA with an allocation of RM1.5 billion from the Sarawak government.
